Veteran's Day

While looking at veterans services available online, you may notice that almost every veterans’ advocacy groups and health service agency offer 1-800 phone numbers for inquiries, appointments and for all other types of resources for vets. In fact, there are several dozen toll free numbers listed exclusively for organizations and agencies offering some type of service for U.S. veterans. (866-VETS-NJ4U and 800-273-TALK are just two examples.)

Veterans Day

Today is November 11, Veterans Day. This annual celebration helps us to remember all the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers.

This is a much-needed service--especially for our older veterans, World War II and Korean War vets in particular. Seniors now, living perhaps on fixed incomes, they could be relying on the medical and human service opportunities available by calling these 1-800 numbers. There are also toll free numbers for reunion groups and other organizations that assist soldiers.

These types of listings are a reminder how many ways toll free phone service can be utilized. Toll free area codes have no geographical connection—they can be advertised throughout the nation, and are available for everyone. The organization or agency pays for the calls, never the caller, so there are no concerns that someone in need may worry too much about the expense to reach out.

Veterans can receive all types of services, referrals and counseling through 1-800 numbers. The numbers are available online through the United States Veterans Affairs website and through private organizations.
