Cost-Free Tax Assistance With 1-800 Numbers.

When the Internal Revenue Service announced a couple of years back that it would provide two new toll free telephone numbers for taxpayers, no one could have predicted just how successful those phone numbers would be.

Small businesses, corporations, partnerships and trusts who need information or help preparing business returns can call -800-829-4933 to receive help on employment taxes, partnership, corporation, estate, gift, trust and excise taxes or other small business issues. People looking for their refunds or want to check on the status of their tax submissions, can call 1-800-829-1954.

Rather than paying hefty long-distance fees while waiting on hold for assistance, taxpayers were given the convenience of a toll free phone call to reach administrators who could answer all the questions.

With tax season just around the corner, these phone lines will likely be swamped once again this year. The IRS toll free lines are among the most-used of all the federal toll free phone numbers. And of course, for help preparing tax returns, companies like H&R BLOCK also provide toll free services for their customers--1-800-HRBLOCK.

Federal and state governments over the past decade have begun offering toll free phone numbers for all kinds of inquiries and assistance—from health-related inquiries, to social security applications, to reservations at the national parks. In recent years, small governments—towns, counties, and villages—have followed suit, providing toll free assistance in even the smallest communities.
